Julie Ellen "Tawny" Kitaen (August 5 1961 - May 7 2021) was an American actress, model, and media personality. She started her career as a TV actress, appearing in the television films Malibu (1983) as well as California Girls (1985). She also appeared in comedy films The Perils of Gwendoline and Bachelor Party (both 1984) and the horror film Witchboard (1986). Kitaen received a lot of attention for her roles in a variety of rock music videos of heavy metal. Some of them include Ratt's "Back for More" (1984) and Whitesnake's "Still of the Night", "Is This Love" and "Here I Go Again" (all 1987).In the 2000s, Kitaen transitioned into appearing in reality-TV shows like The Surreal Life (2006) and Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew (2008) and "Here I Go Again," the latter of which explored Kitaen's problems with substance abuse. She was born Julie Kitaen in San Diego, California in 1961, the oldest of three children born to Linda Kitaen (nee Taylor) who was a housewife and a once-in-a-lifetime beauty pageant participant, and Terry Kitaen, an employee of a neon sign business. Kitaen's mom was of Scottish and Irish heritage, and her father was of Russian Jewish origins. [3It is believed that Kitaen was raised in the Jewish faith. [4][5] At the age of 12 years old, she began to make use of the name "Tawny" that she came up with on her own. As a child she was diagnosed with dyslexia, which eventually led her to drop out of Mission Bay High School. [7] At the age of 14, with tickets to the backstage after a Peter Frampton concert at Balboa Stadium,[8] she experienced the privileged treatment given to Frampton's partner Penny and wanted to be a part of it for herself.
